Agency Updates:
Transforming for Tomorrow Campaign
For over 78 years, Recovery Resource Council has been a beacon of hope for North Texans facing mental health, substance use, and housing challenges. As the largest nonprofit behavioral healthcare provider in the region, we know that the demand for community support is growing at a rapid pace. From veterans to at-risk youth to unhoused individuals, our programs are essential in meeting the diverse needs of thousands.
Now, we’re embarking on an exciting new chapter with our Transforming for Tomorrow Campaign! This $5.1 million initiative will fund the creation of a new, state-of-the-art West Campus in Fort Worth and the renovation of our East Campus in Dallas, enabling us to continue delivering life-changing services in the most efficient and accessible spaces possible. Together, these improvements will support our mission to restore hope, empower individuals, and build stronger communities.
Join us in building a future where wellness and recovery are within reach for everyone in North Texas. Your support will help us raise the remaining $1.35 million needed to bring this vision to life, ensuring we can continue delivering critical care to those who need it most.
Community Engagement:
Creative Collaborations to Combat Overdose
The Council’s Overdose Response Team (ORT) was proud to be part of an event hosted by LIVEGY and Conscience Conduit this winter, highlighting creative approaches to overdose prevention, including North Texas’ first free Narcan vending machines. These innovative dispensers, designed by local artists, provide lifesaving Naloxone and serve as a powerful tool in combating opioid overdoses.
Since its establishment in 2021, the ORT has played a critical role in addressing the opioid crisis by providing post-overdose care within 24-72 hours. The team offers harm reduction education, Narcan training, and referrals to mental health and recovery services, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health and safety. Through partnerships with organizations like LIVEGY, the ORT is able to extend its reach and ensure critical resources, like Naloxone, are accessible to the communities that need them most.
By collaborating with agencies that share a commitment to addressing the opioid epidemic, the Council continues to amplify its impact. Together, efforts like the expansion of Narcan vending machines, blend education and innovation to save lives, strengthen communities, and work toward a future free from overdoses.
Staff Spotlight:
Meet Kim Eliff
This winter, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on Kim Eliff, Case Manager for our Permanent Supportive Housing program. Kim’s role provides vital support for chronically homeless individuals, offering hope, resources, and the opportunity to build a new life.
Kim’s passion for serving others began early, inspired by her parents, who were service-oriented and active members of their community. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services and numerous certifications, including Mental Health First Aid, Domestic Violence, and Court Mediation – tools that have strengthened her ability to approach challenges with compassion and practical expertise.
With over 30 years of experience in social services, Kim has dedicated her career to helping others. Her path has included roles such as running outpatient drug and alcohol treatment centers and providing case management for single, pregnant women who were homeless or survivors of sex trafficking. After relocating to Texas, Kim joined Recovery Resource Council in December 2021.
In her current role, Kim provides intensive case management to individuals with a history of chronic homelessness. Her work includes assisting with housing, rent, utilities, food, transportation, and connecting clients to mental health and recovery services. Kim focuses on helping clients break the cycle of chronic homelessness by addressing underlying issues like trauma, mental health challenges, and substance use.
Kim’s words reflect the transformative journey she witnesses every day: “The look on a client’s face when they acquire a permanent place to live for the first time in many years is just one of the positive aspects that make this type of work worthwhile. My favorite sound is the sound of breaking chains.”
We are deeply grateful for Kim’s hope, connection, and commitment – guiding individuals toward stability, one small step at a time.
Supporting Our Mission:
2024 Year-End Drive
For too many in our community, the path to recovery is often long and challenging, extending far beyond the initial struggles. Savanah knows this struggle all too well. Years of substance use cost Savanah her job, her home, and most painfully, her relationship with her children.
When she came to Recovery Resource Council, she was at rock bottom; estranged from her family and unsure where to start after treatment. But thanks to supporters like you, Savanah found the help she needed through our Recovery Support Services. With personalized coaching, weekly support groups, access to critical resources, and the guidance of a caring community, she slowly rebuilt her life. “Having the peer support has helped me to grow in more ways than one,” Savanah shared. “It’s allowed me to just keep putting one foot in front of the other when I didn’t feel like I could do it.”
Today, Savanah is not only five years sober but also paying it forward, serving as a mentor to others in their early stages of recovery. Her story is a testament to the life-changing impact your support makes.
But there is still more work to be done. As we look to 2025, we need your help to continue our mission. Your support allows community members like Savanah to regain their lives, their families, and their hope. Will you join us in continuing to provide life-changing care and resources to more individuals in 2025? Every gift, no matter the size, directly supports those in our community seeking hope, healing, and a fresh start. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind on their path to wellness.
